Put Down Your Worry
One morning last week, I woke up feeling very anxious and worried about the state of the world in general and my life in particular. Sleep had been difficult and my mind was caught up in doomsday loops. I went to the window to look out as I find comfort in the majesty of the tall redwood trees and I saw a little bunny with big ears and a tiny white tail running along the driveway. I thought that it must be running from something - there must be some threat - especially as Fox lives here at Pudding Creek too. In fact, I had seen Fox prancing along this same stretch of driveway only 2 days ago! Just at that moment both Bunny and I stopped and looked around. Fox was not there! Then Bunny hopped into the air and kicked its legs about in a little bunny jig of sorts. This made me smile and then laugh a bit when it did it a second time Bunny taught me that morning that even when there are real dangers out there (like a fox or a pandemic, systemic racism, and threatening economic collapse), to remember that life is still happening. Don't put off being alive until all of the dangers are eradicated and things are smooth and easy. Don't wait to start enjoying your life. So I put down my worry and sat down to practice connection through mindfulness and gratitude for what is in front of me which is Bunny, the sun, the blue sky, and my life. You too have the opportunity to make a choice. Don't wait to put down fear and worry. Don't wait to enjoy the small moments.
