Soup of Life
This last week has been full of uncertainty. This is life sometimes! My husband, Joe, came home from a holiday craft fair feeling unwell. It turns out that he had caught COVID. I spent this week unsure if I would catch it too. (Not so far, at least according to the many many rapid tests I took.) And then there is the worry that he may have long-term health consequences. You know what helped? Remembering that so many of you have faced this and other even more challenging circumstances. We are in this soup of life together!
Let's make nurturing healing soup, in a metaphorical sense, as we move through this holiday season. We start with all of the personal difficulties that we face like illness, add in the collective stuff like the problems of climate change, racial injustice, and economic stratification. Next, the recipe calls for a dollop of compassion and a generous splash of wisdom. Remember that humans have faced uncertainty and trials over the last millennia. The grandmothers and grandfathers that fought for women's rights and racial justice are here with us as we make our soup. So are all those over time that faced war, famine, and plague. Simmer it all over the low heat of practice; meditation, yoga, and dharma. Serve warm with kindness to your friends and loved ones.
Joe is healing, feeling better every day. I am taking it slow and moving gently.
