Tiger Stories
Two years ago, when I first met Tiger, he was half-wild and very hungry. I would bring some tuna outside under an apple tree and sing to him while he ate. He wouldn't let me touch him, but he would climb the tree to show off and chase after apples that I rolled. (This was in the fall when the apples drop from the trees).
He has changed so much. When I work on the computer (like right now), he comes to the sliding door and meows, craning his neck and staring at me. I get up and let him in so he can eat his second breakfast. At night, he likes to climb on the bed and stand on my face with his hind legs while kneading the pillow with his front paws. He is no longer afraid of me or of coming indoors.
Everybody changes. We might think to ourselves that we have always been a certain way or that the people around us are somehow fixed and unchanging. It is true that we all have patterns and habits, but no one and no habit is exempt from the tides of change.
I sang to Tiger daily while he ate outside for about three months before he let me touch him or came inside! Deliberate changes are made most easily when made in and from love. Give your loved ones and even give your own self a chance to surprise you. (They just might start to sleep on your face!)
