Meet Joe
Meet Joe, the guy doing yoga and meditation on Zoom with you, also known as a forest gnome. Way back in the olden days, 25 years ago, we met at a yoga class (I was not the teacher! lol) at 7th Heaven in Berkeley. After class Joe gave me a piece of his art, and I was smitten. I asked a friend to find out if he was available, and the rest is history.
At the beginning of the pandemic, when all of my teaching went online, Joe stepped in front of the camera to become the now-infamous yoga model. Teaching yoga, which is generally done solo, has turned into a lovely teaching partnership. I couldn't be more grateful.
Aside from being the yoga model and the cook on retreats here at Pudding Creek, Joe's main mission is as an artist who champions peace.
Even though hearing him speak on camera is rarer than finding a forest gnome at a city yoga class, he has a lot to say.
Without further ado, I will now turn this newsletter over to Joe.
Peace!
Now more than ever!
by Peace Chain Joe
Well actually people have been saying “now more than ever” since I started the Peace Chain project 33 years ago. In that time I have seen wars and world leaders come and go. I am in grief for the suffering and loss caused by delusion and misinformation.
Through it all, what endures for me is the peace created from making this art form and sharing it with you. Together we are creating a peace chain reaction!
From the beginning I set out to see how many variations to a small piece of clay I could come up with. I’ve created 630,981 so far. It would appear the possibilities are infinite. There are no limits with imagination. All power to the imagination!
This is my way of saying/promoting/practicing peace with my art.
This artistic experiment now includes ceramic and wood pendants.
Each piece has a word for peace in one of 123 languages.
